If you find yourself needing to have an ignition interlock device, or a car breathalyzer installed as a court mandate, your own decision, or for business purposes, we can help. Murphy’s Auto Center is one of Minnesota’s few certified Intoxalock ignition interlock installation locations. Our Intoxalock installers go through continuous training and can safely install and calibrate* devices in all vehicle types.

*The state of Minnesota requires all breath alcohol monitoring devices to be calibrated every 60 days. A calibration consists of exchanging your current device for a newly calibrated one.

Intoxalock Services FAQ

What is included in an ignition interlock device?

  • Handheld unit
  • Mouthpiece
  • Relay cord connecting the device to your vehicle

How do I avoid a false positive?

Although Intoxalock is designed to accurately measure alcohol, some products contain alcohol in trace amounts. Some of the most common products include mouthwash, lotions, and other cleaners. Review the ingredients of your products before submitting a sample or random retest to avoid a false positive. It is suggested that you avoid those products while in close contact with your interlock system.

What is a lockout and how do I avoid it?

A lockout occurs when you are unable to submit a sample due to a few avoidable situations. Missed calibrations and too many failed breath samples are the top two reasons for a lockout. Schedule your calibration appointments when your device notifies you to avoid missing the required time frame. Too many failed breath samples will also cause a lockout and will require your device lockout to be cleared before it will function again. At the time of installation our representatives will explain the rules and help you understand how to avoid a lockout.
